Caffeine won't keep your Mac awake with the lid closed. To do that, either use clamshell mode, or use InsomniaX or InsomniaT (rebuild for SL) (fix for 2011 MPBs)

Yes, but you won't be able to interact with it without opening the lid or using a remote desktop solution.
