How do you change the map provider in in the dashboard display to a third party like Google or Waze? I have updated my phone, but can't figure out how to do it!

You can't. Yet. Apple has updated the CarPlay interface, but the map apps also need to be updated... No clue how quickly that may/may not happen.

@gui888 Please note that your title says « ...iOS 13.1.4 » and that Apple iOS is now at 13.4 and it is only starting with 13.4 that CarPlay update allows this option. But as mentioned by @dwfaust, app developers need to update their apps for it to work. We should see that coming in a near future

Anyone have any updates on when Waze will be ready to go on the CarPlay Dashboard Display? I would think enough time has gone by to get this done by Waze/Google, but maybe Covid delayed it. Wish it would come soon though.

You're assuming Waze is going to add that capability. The developer doesn't need to add support to the their application. It could be beta, maybe somebody running the beta can comment, if there's now NDA.

Yes - I would think that Waze would. They always moved to quickly adapt before, but maybe Google buying them will change that. Eventually, Waze will be gone, as I bet Google will merge Waze to them. Wish Waze stayed independent.

Would be a shame if they don’t add this capability.

It's been requested as an update on their forums, but no official response from them on the subject... right now, Waze is a train wreck. The last update borked the audio controls within CarPlay... Waze thinks there's an active prompt, and changing the volume of the audio (music) doesn't work... the HUD only shows "Prompt Volume", and the audio level doesn't change.

When I open the Waze app and it starts, it always goofs my system audio, distorts and/or mutes, even if I'm playing the radio. (2017 VW Alltrack and IIRC 2017 Chevy Volt). Is that related? It's a first world problem but annoying nevertheless.

I also noticed that standalone, if I speak a destination into Waze there is apparently an answering "did you mean" type of confirmation-asking prompt, but it's either muted or really really faint. In the car, that part is OK. ???

Out of curiosity.

Does VW have an update for the headunit in your Alltrack to resolve some of these issues?? I know that many car manufacturers tend to lag behind by a year or two or five when it comes to updating software in headunits.

When I had a 2016 Passat, it would refuse to connect to iPhones via bluetooth, but worked fine with Android phones. I think it took over a year for a VW to issue a patch. But by that time I sold my Passat.
