Is it normal for the backbook pro to get hot and the fan to turn on high when using a specific app? (It’s not a game but a 3D game-like educational astronomy app that let’s you say explore planets, moons etc in 3D),

I tried looking at activity monitor when the astronomy app is turned on and idle and it uses up agout 15 percent cpu, if I move within the 3D map of the cosmos with the mouse cursor such as if I move a planet in 3D for example to look at the other side of the planet I noticed that there is a momentary spike in cpu to about 50-60 percent cpu usage but it goes back down to 15-20 within a second or two after I stop moving the planet or an object such as an asteroid with the mouse cursor, The MacBook only has 8gb ram but in activity monitor it shows the app is using about 1gb ram so I don’t think the ram isn’t enough, is the CPU simply not powerful enough and is normal to get hot when something graphical like this app is used ?(it’s the stock i5 dual core(?) that was used in the 2017 MacBook Pro 13 inch)

This is completely normal for a more intensive application and not anything to worry about provided it can run the application smoothly. The heat is a byproduct of higher CPU/GPU load, and the Intel Macs get really hot under load.

It’s crazy how much heat these things produce, this is the first time I own a MacBook as I always owned iMacs before, I’m glad to hear it’s normal because it gets really hot
