Apple originally launched the 13-inch MacBook Air with M2 chip in June 2022 with a $1,199 starting price, but dropped the price to $1,099 in June 2023 when the 15-inch MacBook Air with M2 chip was launched. The base configuration includes an 8-Core CPU, 8-Core GPU, 8GB of unified memory, and 256GB of internal storage.

Pre-orders of the new MacBook Air models with M3 chip start today, with orders arriving to customers on Friday, March 8. The laptops continue to be available in Midnight, Starlight, Space Gray, and Silver with a starting price of $1,099. Apple today also discontinued the MacBook Air with M1 chip and the 15-inch MacBook Air with M2 chip.

Weird that they'd get rid of only the 15" M2 and not keep it around. I'm assuming the small differences between the M1-M3 mean they don't want to keep it around to take sales away from the 15" M3 one.

I know a lot of people loved the wedge form factor, but the newer one is much better, IMO. Nice that it now starts at $999. (Although it would really start at $799, but you can’t expect too much in this era of high prices)

It really is sometimes hit and miss whether you purchase optimally…. M2 Macbook Air 15 inch has had a very short run indeed… and now the countdown starts on its inevitable end of support… which will be far shorter than the M2 Macbook Air 13 inch which released over a year ahead of it.

I think the M2 Macbook Air 13 inch is going to have a long run indeed.. its going to be like the ipad Air 2…. And im really happy i bought it when i did… im going to get a really good run out of it… a great value proposition for those of us that bought it on release.

I miss the days when they used to lower the price of the product through the generations instead of just keeping the old one at a lower price.

Its really not nice when the device people have bought isnt on sale for even a year before its discontinued. The M2 Macbook Air 15 is a great laptop… but im sure there will be some that will feel hard done its run was super super short compared to most other Apple devices. I mean the M1 macbook air is going to have a hardware support life almost twice that of the Macbook Air M2 15 inch…

Especially if your a person that likes to keep devices as long as possible.. At least there is the option to get the battery replaced prior to the inevitable end of hardware support.

I wonder if this means the 15-inch M2 Air is going to be available for cheap on other sites now? 🤔 It might be officially discontinued, but that thing was a great laptop.

A pretty good deal for students with the education discount. I expect some more $600-$700 M1 MacBook Airs from resellers as well.
I wonder why Apple doesn't offer trade-in's for MacBook Air and MacBook Pro.

They do but it's just not a good value. 'Up to $550' for a MacBook Air (even if you have a mini condition M2)
Trade-ins are handled by a third-party company, and that company sets lower values because they have to make a profit.

Haven’t really paid attention to product releases for a couple years now, is it common for the press release ones to stagger the announcements? Just curious if it’s silly to think the iPad pros are getting announced today too.

I don’t understand the need to keep the M2 as an option. Just make the M3 $100 cheaper to fit that price point. Are you telling me Apple’s margins are that close that they need to have an older model that’s only $100 cheaper than their latest and greatest? Think about how much time Apple employees will have to spend everyday explaining to customers the difference between the 13 M2 Air and 13 M3 Air. To me that sounds like a bigger cost than just selling the newer device at the magical price of $999. But what do I know. I’m just a keyboard warrior and not the wealthiest company in the world.
