i am looking to buy my first MacBook and I was wondering which would be the best choice, the 13" 2014 MacBook Air with 128gb SSD or the 13" 2013 MacBook Air with 256gb SSD? Both same price so wondering which would be worth the money.

Thanks

I agree that 2013 is the sweet spot in terms of cost vs performance. However, are you looking at Apple refurbs with warranties or used computers from individuals? An Apple refurb should have a new battery.

If they are used computers, then the 2103 model probably has a lot more hours on the battery and may need a replacement sooner. It would be good to look at:

About This Mac > More Info > System Report > Power > Battery Information > Cycle Count

My 2013 MBA has 229 cycles and is in Normal condition FWIW. I still get excellent run time.

Agree with other posters and would opt for 2013 with larger SSD. I have 2013 and it is the first computer that truly has all day battery life of 12-13 hours (YMMV) so I can leave my brick and backpack (briefcase) behind when I go to business meetings. For my use of typical business apps like MS Office, Adobe Acrobat, Safari, there are NO performance issues or limitations. I do value the storage space so I got a 512 after getting close to filling up my 256 SSD on a previous MBA.

I have the early 2014 model with 256ssd, this thing is amazing, coding more than 10 hours on battery, what a beauty!!

I'd go with the larger storage device. I've got a mid 2013 with 8gig & 512gig (plus a 128 gig SD card for audio & video) and it's been my travel companion road warrior since I bought it. Less storage (for me) would have been a mistake.

I'm selling my 2013 rmbp just because my 11 Air is amazing. I don't even feel it in my backpack/messenger bag, and literally take it everywhere with me.

That being said, I'd only go for the 2013 if it came with some sort of warranty. If it didn't, and the 2014 did, then I'd go for the 2014.
