Still here.
My MacBook Pro (non-Touch Bar) began having battery-related issues about 6 months ago.

It will sometimes power off unexpectedly while the battery is reported as being more than half charged, and then report a very low charge after powering it back on. This never happens with the power adapter plugged in.

A month or so ago, it also started having USB-related issues.

I have several multiport USB adapters (the kind with HDMI, USB 3, etc.) and after waking from sleep or somethings while using the machine, the second display will go black and devices plugged into USB 3 on the adapter will stop working. System Preferences > Display menu still reports a second monitor is present, but there is no signal to it.

Sometimes unplugging the adapter for a moment resolves the issue. Sometimes it takes a reboot.

I've reset SMC dozens of times and I can't really tell if it helps either issue or not. They are both rather sporadic.

So, with all that in mind, it doesn't look like my serial number is included in the battery replacement program, unfortunately.

I've installed all software updates, ran the hardware diagnostic (which reports the battery as a problem), and ran First Aid on the SSD and all partitions (which report no issues). Is there anything else I can try, or should I just bring it to Apple?

Hi,

I've been there and can totally relate on the battery issues. Had to bear it for almost 1 year. Most likely the battery wearing down, due to (normal? intense?) use.

Finally had my battery replaced 2 months ago and everything has been fine since then.

Was yours the same model as mine? Did you have to pay the $199 replacement charge?

Yes, same exact model.

And yes, paid the fees. In euros (I was in Europe at that time). Plus taxes, it was around €214.

Did you have any USB-related issues before replacing the battery? I'm wondering if the two could be related for me.

No USB issues by my side.
But you could call Apple so that they help you diagnose if the two are related.

Thanks. I'm definitely planning to give them a call and maybe set up an appointment to get the battery checked out.
