Just booted up my Mid 2010 13" MacBook Pro to do a quick bit of work and noticed my screen is flickering. at first I thought it was me or the ambient light sensor picking up the the reflection from the wall behind me but I've now realised that the LED's are playing up.

I'm in a darkened room and the brightness is set quite low (4 blocks on the bar).

When the flicker occurs the back light becomes uneven; along the bottom of the screen its as though half the LEDs are brighter (or dimmer) than the others creating a stage light effect if that makes sense.

So far I've tried:

Resetting SMC
Resetting PRAM
Booting into my Snow Leopard Partition

The only thing that has made it go away has been plugging into the mains, but as soon as I go back to battery power the problem resumes.

Is there anything anything else anyone can recommend or am I looking at a repair job (or a new MBP)?

Replace the battery??? If it's fine on mains power it's quite possibly a power issue.
