I have a MacBook Air here, it's an A1932. It's my ex's. I'm pretty sure it's hosed but I thought I'd post here in case there's something I can do that I'm not aware of.

Open the lid and press the "power" button and the screen will come on... well, the backlight will. No picture. So I plugged in an external monitor in. It comes on, and I get a mouse pointer which I can move with the track pad. The caps lock light will come on too. But the screen is black. Nothing more.

If I hold down the power button for a long time, I would expect it to eventually reboot. It does not. The screen goes off and it just "powers off" (best way to describe it, I guess). If I press the power button again, that backlight will come on. I have to unplug and re-plug the external display to get the black screen with working cursor again.

Is there any hope for this thing? She'd like to have her data off of it before sending it for repair.

Thanks.
