What do you guys think?

13'' MBP + 24'' LED Cinema Display or the 15'' High Res MBP.

The price difference isn't that great. Portability is very important to me but I also want more screen real estate. I don't do heavy video editing or heavy photoshop and I'm not a big gamer.

Thoughts?

Pherhaps a little more information would be nice;
How much do you travel, where would you like to use your MBP...
You're also only pointing out things you don't do, but what is it will do do with your MBP..
Will it be your main computer, for how long do you think/hope you'll be using it?

If you're wanting to be more portable, but have a great workstation at home, the 13+24 is a great way to go. In fact, I just put together a proposal for my pastor that answered the same question in the same way.

But to give you the best possible advice, we'd need a little more information as to your specific situation.

Imperfect information gives imperfect results.

I'll be using it for law school, carrying it to classes so portability is key. Mostly using it for web browsing, word, watching movies, music, etc... I do some web design/light graphic design on the side too.

Go for the 15" if you aren't going to be using it the bulk of the time sitting down in your home/dorm.

It will work great, I just put together a similar setup last fall for my daughter. Add a Henge Dock docking station and you have seemless in and out (see www.hengedocks.com).

Umm...why don't you get a cheaper 24" monitor? They can be had for less than $300 and since you're not doing any graphic intensive work you won't even notice a difference. Plus you won't have to deal with the glare from the Cinema display

Yeah, really. It blows my mind that people pay that much for the 24" Cinema.

There are good/better IPS panels to be had for half the cost.

Go with the 13" MacBook Pro + 24" Cinema Display.

The high-res 15" offers more pixels but makes things smaller. Since you are looking at the option of an external display.. go down that route instead. Get more real estate by inches and pixels, not just pixels alone.
