Ok my 13" MBP is great and when I first got it it was cool and the battery lasted 7+ hours. But now the area by the hinge gets really hot and I get like 3 hours or battery. What is by the hinge area? Is it the battery?

well the heating up is normal.

As for the 3 hours, the first couple of battery life cycles varied greatly but I average about 4:45 easy now.

You should do this, fully recharge the battery and deplete it fully 3 or four times, then do a calibration of the battery and everything should be nice and settled in.

Sounds to me like you have something that is running and causing high cpu usage. This will result in heat as that is where the fan exhaust is and also decreased battery time.

it heats up in the upper right corner when charging, its not a big deal unless its too hot to touch

Would handbrake cause high cpu usage? I am not ripping a dvd but it was running. I downloaded the fan control software and it initially was 160 degrees farenheit but it has now dropped to 129 since closing handbrake.

I think it was handbrake since my MBP is no longer hot to the touch and is at 115f

Handbrake is one of the most CPU intensive app.'s you can run. If you had it running in the background it will get into the 90'sºC range pretty quickly.

Ok thanks for the comfirmation.

Yeah Handbrake will do that for you. It eats CPU cycles and heats like none other. Try SMCfanControl to cool it down. I get between 2 and 6 hours of battery life. With any heavy encoding, I get around two. Flash video and streaming 2-4, and regular internet usage 6.

^^^ Thanks

And by the way I love my 13" MBP and wouldnt trade it for a 15" or 17" ever.
