13" Mbp - Sound is very slow at changing?

Hi, I have a late 2011 Macbook pro 13" 2.4ghz with an sad... and whenever i make a volume change or click play or pause on audio be it iTunes or inlayer etc... its quite often really slow at responding, This also happens a lot of the time when using the hardware buttons aswell, Mostly ok but when i haven't altered it for a while its sooo slow.

Is this normal?

Definitely not normal. Especially the volume change via the hardware buttons should be instantaneous. All I can think of is that you're running something in the background that causes heavy CPU load? Check your activity monitor just to be sure.

maybe go into utilities, check audio midi setup, take a look at the audio settings;
u should be in the right outputs, probably 44/16...
