OS X Catalina
Version 10.15.7
MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid 2012)
Processor 2.5 GHz Intel Core iS
Memory 16 GB 1333 MHz DDR3
Startup Disk 500GB Macintosh SSD
Graphics Inte l HO Graphics 4000 1536 MB

Not "continuity" in the electrical sense, but in the operational sense. Recently upgraded memory from 8 GB to 16, and OS X from El Capitan to Catalina. Now, whenever the machine is left idle and goes to a security screen that requires me to log back in, it also shuts down any open apps. As I'm mostly web-surfing, this is more annoying than anything else, but it didn't do this before the upgrade. Any clues on how to fix are most appreciated. Many thanks for your help, PW

Go to System Preferences > Security & Privacy > Advanced... (you might need to click the Lock icon in the bottom left to enable this button). Make sure you have "Log out after X minutes of inactivity" disabled. Then you can enable "require password [immediately] after sleep or screen saver begins."

Try this and see if it works.
