Hey everyone,

It's time for me to get a new laptop and going back to the MacBook pro line. I currently have a mid 2011 13" MacBook Air. before that I had a 2006 15" MacBook Pro. I've enjoyed the portability of the air it is really nice to use just lounging on the couch, however it gets bogged down doing simple tasks way too easily.

I'm trying to figure out if going back to a 15" mbp is going to feel massive, however I really like how the base one is pretty spec'd out compared to the 13". If i were to go the 13" route I would probably upgrade the RAM to 16 gigs and maybe get the upgraded processor.

I have just now started to getting into photo and video editing. Definitely an amateur but the thought of a discrete GPU sounds nice.

What does everyone think?

I’m buying a MBP right now and I’m definitely going for the 15inch. I’ll use it for law school, which is nothing so intense. However the larger monitor and spec pump in every single component is why I chose the 15inch. There are discounts at both Adorama and B&H on the base 2018 and 2017 models, both for $2099. However the 2018 model comes with 256GB of storage while the 2017 model comes with 512GB. I’m actually confused which one to go for, shipping is October 3 though.

I have quite a few Apple store gift cards and my wife is a teacher. So I'll be going through apple and do the back to school discount and get the free pair of Beats headphones. It ends tomorrow so I need to make a decision soon.

Go for the student discount at Apple store, IT ENDS TOMORROW. Ask if you could upgrade the headphones to the Beats Studio Wireless and pay the difference $50, as it is far superior and comfortable than the Solo, you may also sell it ;) The 15” will be for $2250, you should definitely go for that before the offer ends.plus using the trackpad and keyboard in the 15” if far more comfortable than 13” for the large space. Go and see by yourself, and tell me which one did you go for and your experience.

Have you heard of them allowing you to upgrade to the Beats Studio Wireless?
