I was in search of the perfect mobile set-up because I have to do some "field work". So I purchased a Bear Extender Mini w/ 5 dbi antenna to extend my WiFi range. I also got a USB to SATA cable to connect an old SSD from a previous MBP. Both of these I "installed" on the lid of my rMBP using some tape and a little liquid courage. But to my dismay when the SSD is connected the antenna connection drops off completely. Why?

Two things come to mind - rf interference and power. Have you tried moving the SSD away from the bear? Each USB port should provide adequate power. Have you tried it with any other external drive?
