Hi, I've got a fourth generation Airport Extreme Base Station and we're currently having some internet problems and I'm pretty sure getting rid of my Motorola Gateway (which our cable internet connects to, and the AEBS connects to the Gateway via ethernet) will solve it and any future problems as well.

Is there some kind of adaptor that can be bought to attach to the cable and then into the AEBS? Or will I have to buy myself another router? This one is six or seven years old.

Assuming I have to buy another router, what exactly do I need? I only want it pass the internet connection to the AEBS, and have the AEBS handle everything you'd normally use. Do I need a modem? Router? Gateway? I'm not sure.

Would appreciate any help!
Cheers

You cannot attach your coaxial cable directly to your AEBS. The AEBS is a router, not a modem. A modem is required to modulate/demodulate the signal from your ISP/from your computer so your computer/ISP can use it and display the webpage you want to see.

You need a new cable modem.
