I have a 6 month old MacBook which has a hard disk memory of 250 gb.
I have all my data on an external hard drive and only a few things which roughly come upto 100 GB on my mac. I noticed yesterday that my mac had only 24 GB left so i started deleting some stuff. and today it shows just 36 MB free space ! someone please help as i am new to mac !
FYI, memory refers to RAM, not to hard drive space.
For space issues, there are a few things you can try:
Begin by restarting your computer as a first step. This sometimes resolves issues.
Search with Finder to see if the space is being consumed by a very large file or several large files. Adjust the 50GB in the illustration to whatever size you deem appropriate.
My macbook's hard drive was just filling one time. So I started deleting stuff, but within no time it was full again. I was like WHAT!! Like some small bug eating my hard drive.
Anyway, I checked all folders sizes and found out my mail folder was huge! After doing some research (and googling) I found out I had sent an e-mail that was too big. So Mail just kept making copies of it and trying to send (why, I do not know). Deleting the files in the folder and from mail solved the problem. Google for more exact details if the e-mail is your problem.
