Off_The_Wall idea re Keyboard/Trackpad

I really like the keyboard and trackpad of my MBA and don't very much like the stand alone wireless versions (has to do with wrist/hand/finger ergonomics). How much of a complete MacBook would I have to have to use just the KB and TP ?
I'm guessing that they are hard wired into the guts of the unit, so at the very least, I would need a functioning unit - but if the screen was broken, I could connect it to an external display via a TB cable ?
Could I connect it in some way to a Mac Mini and use the processing power of that ?

Just bought one of the Bullettrain Express things. Hopefully it will be worthwhile.
