Is there a way to mark emails or a whole inbox on my iPhone as read?

Hello everyone

I have a problem using mail on my iPhone 4S. I've added two gmail accounts, and now my iPhone downloads all the thousands email I have archived on each one, even though I've already read them all.

It looks as it downloads every email from these accounts without any synchronization with gmail and without checking which email has already been read and which hasn't been.

I haven't found any way to mark all of the emails in each account, or to mark the entire inbox, as read(just like on gmail).

iPhone 4S, iOS 5.0.1

Anybody knows how to solve this problem?
