Hi, community,
I reinstalled Snow Leopard on my new MacBook Pro 8,1, and used the opportunity to revert to a file hierarchy I think is more optimal for future SSD use.
I simply want to restore documents from TM back where they were on the previous MacBook Pro, and reconnect TM's backup to the current tree. Migration Assistant takes ages to list what was inside Users, to the point I wondered if it froze. Currently, this TM snapshot is the only accessible
The problem is, since the files and folders aren't in the same position, I have to manually select target directory, and sometimes some files or folders aren't properly copied. It's not a big deal if I can reconnect TM's backup to the older backup.
However, after reading many pages on the "reconnection" topic, it seems a very common secondary issue is, TM, although reconnected to the previous snapshots, performs at least one full backup. The secondary issue is, I probably don't have enough room for a secondary, full backup. I'm pretty sure there WILL be a full backup attempted since the file tree has changed.
From my small Terminal-related knownledge I think symlinks may be helpful here, but a past experience with a similar case was unsuccessful (Back then I tried to put a symlink between the Users folder and an external partition, hoping that applications would follow it. They didn't.)
How can I achieve this goal?
