Hello,

I think I have figured out a way to sync rigntones and sms files to iOS 5. These were the steps I followed:

Note: Make sure you have a copy of the ringtones on your computer in a .m4r format

Note: I manually manage the sync on my phone, I do not use auto sync

1. I uninstalled iTunes and re-installed (not sure if this step is required might be optional)

2. Remove ringtones from my phone using iTunes

3. Remove ringtones from iTunes library

4. re-add ringtones into iTunes library

5. manually drag each individual ringtone to the iPhone and allowed it to synchronize

6. Repeat step 5 for each ringtone you want to add to phone.

Hope this helps.

I tried doing this with a few ringtones I created. All of them show up in iTunes under the 'Tones' heading, but only two of the 5 actually copied to the phone. I used the same method to make all of the m4r files which was

Download audio file in whatever format

Open in Quicktime

File > Export > Audio only

Rename m4a file to m4r

Drag m4r file into iTunes.

My wife's phone has the same problem. 2 out of her 4 ringtones show up on her phone, even though they all show up in iTunes.
