We are two developers who couldn't find a stock app that fulfilled our needs, so we decided to make our own app. We call it 1337stocks and we have just released v1.2 where you can defragment the local database to make the app quicker when reloading data from Yahoo.

This is the first time we write about it in any forum, so here's a description of what it does and why we made it:

There are many stock apps on the App Store today, but most of them are either just showing a static chart or do not include a portfolio manager. We trade ourselves, so we needed an app with interactive charts and a good portfolio manager, plus the ability to warn us if a stock has passed through its support or resistance levels.

1337stocks has the following key features:

  • Multiple portfolios and multiple watch lists. Always keep track on your portfolios current values or the value for each individual company that you own.
  • All the data are stored locally in a database so you can use the app even if you don't have an Internet connection.
  • Choose if you want the app to auto reload stock data every minute from Yahoo or if you want to reload manually by tapping the reload button.
  • You can set support and resistance level (i.e. alert levels) on each stock. When the app reloads all data from the Internet, it will show all stocks that passed through their alert levels in an alert tab. This way, you can easily keep track of more than 100 stocks without having to go through them every day. You can even get a sound alarm if you like. Just set the alert levels and the app will warn you when it's time. I have currently 6 stocks right now in my alerts tab.
  • Interactive charts: Many stock apps download their technical analysis charts as a static image from Yahoo, making it impossible to see the chart and all indicators at the same time if you want to zoom in. The technical analysis chart in 1337stocks is dynamic and will therefore always adjust the height of the chart when you scroll so that you see exactly the price range for the stock data. You can scroll back in time and zoom in and out. You also have a line cursor that you can move around to select a specific date.
  • The chart shows a price histogram on the left side, which you can use to find consolidation intervals.
  • Alert levels are seen in the technical analysis chart as a red and a green line. You can change the alert levels directly in the chart interactively.
  • Your average price for a specific stock is also seen as a line in the technical analysis chart. You will thus immediately see where you bought it in the chart.
  • We support the following indicators today: Moving Average, RSI, Stochastics, MACD, and VWAP (Volume Weighted Moving Average). You can change the parameters for these indicators, for instance if you prefer a 9 days RSI instead of 14.
  • Switch between daily, weekly and monthly time frame in the chart.
  • We also show the intraday chart for each stock, but this one is static.

We have a blog where we even make our own analyses based on the app. Check it out: http://www.1337stocks.com
