Native Resolution Video?

Hey

I was wondering, firstly, it would seem odd if it couldn't, but is the new iPad limited to playing 1080p video? If not, does anyone know where I could download a really nice quality video at 2048x1536 to see how it performs? I've been unsuccessful in finding any of high enough quality and the less tradition resolution.

You could try downloading 4k video from youtube and then cropping to fit the iPad. You also need a good compression ratio.
 
Yeah, it's not that it can't play video larger than 1080p, it's that most video out there is not larger than 1080p. Like whtrbt7 said, find some 4K video and see how it looks. I think I'll try that now!

Yeah, the upscaling on that video is brilliant. I showed it off to my friends and they all went wow and complimented the screen right away.
 
has anyone actually managed to play a video larger than 1080p on their iPad? iTunes won't sync them over, VLC just gives me a blue screen when trying to play them.

I'm using the TimeScapes one posted by SteveAbootman

even tried converting it down to native resolutions like 2K and 1536p but still nothing... its in exactly the same format and using the same codecs as other 1080p videos that play fine...

Edit, just downloaded the Timescapes video in 1080p instead and it plays fine, so am i doing something wrong or have Apple set a limit?

I used handbrake to convert down to 2048, and tried to sync with iTunes -- got the attached error. (The 1080p worked fine as you said)

Also tried uploading to dropbox and saving to iPad from that. I got no option to save to iPad, and the preview screen was stuck trying to load.

It does appear Apple has set a limit. After not getting the 2048 to play, I checked out the tech specs of the new iPad on Apples website. Looks like we're limited to 1080p folks.

Video formats supported: H.264 video up to 1080p, 30 frames per second, High Profile level 4.1 with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats

Yeah, I just tried a 4k video and it wouldn't open. I'm sure it's possible to make an app that plays 4k.
 
Yeah, have a High resolution screen is very different to be able to play a video at that resolution(or games).
