Logitech mouse compatibility with Macs

Hi, I have been looking at logitech gaming mice on the internet. After looking through the official website I'v found that they don't make any drivers for the G series or any of the gaming mice.

But am I right that it is plug and play, so it will still work on the mac, I'm not interested in assigning any extra buttons and thats what I think the drivers are for.

It's the G400 mouse that I am looking at if anybody has or knows anymore about it?

If memory serves me correctly, you can assign something like 200 mouse buttons to different functions. All mice are plug and play.

I'm using an older Logitech MX-610 mouse with the PowerMac g4 that I'm typing this on.

When I bought it, Logitech advertised it as a Windows mouse, with no mention of Mac support, and there were no drivers.

I bought it anyway. I plugged it in, not expecting any of the buttons (except for the left-click and right-click) to work. To my amazement, some of the buttons worked without any prompting at all (volume up/down/mute).

I used "USB Overdrive" to set more of the buttons up.
There is also another app called "Steermouse" that works, as well (it recognized an additional button that USB Overdrive didn't seem to "see", but I just like USB-O better).

I use a Logitech G700, at home, with my Macbook. For that mouse at least, its programming is stored in the mouse and not on the computer running its software. When I want to change it, I plug it into a Windows machine that's running the Logitech software, change whatever I need to, and then plug it back into my Mac.

I use a Performance MX mouse at work with that same Macbook. For that one, Logitech does make OSX drivers/software for it and you can program all it's buttons and whatnot with it.

Hmm I am a little torn between the G400 which is only £25 and the Razer Deathadder which is £45 but has full Mac compatibility out of the box.

I'm not a massive Mac gamer though just a bit of on/off Wow when i get a bit bored of console gaming, but just wanted a decent mouse to use all the time because I don't really like the Magic Mouse!

I would go with Logitech even without full OSX support. With Steermouse you won't notice any inconvenience. Logitech has much better customer support than Razer. So much so that I don't buy Razer anymore. When your mouse feet gets worn Razer will tell you to go buy your own while Logitech just sends them to you. When you have hardware issues Razer makes you mail it in for service. Logitech just sends a new mouse to you. I used to have 4 Razer mice (Diamondback, Copperhead, Deathadder and Mamba) and have none now.
