i5 13" MBP, 8gb 1600Mhz, 16Gb 1600Mhz, 1866Mhz?

Hi, I have a MBP 13 "i5, and I would like to upgrade the ram memory, I saw that there are people who can do the work with 8Gb 1600Mhz.

But, I saw also, that there are choices of 16GB, and also the 1600Mhz and 1866Mhz.
I wonder if these kits (16Gb 1600Mhz~1866Mhz) work in my MBP i5 and which would be indicated.

Getting 1600mhz or 1866mhz RAM wouldn't do you any good as the bus speed on this model is 1333mhz and there is no way to overclock the bus to utilize faster RAM.

If you got 1600mhz or 1866mhz rated RAM and put it in your MBP it would just run at 1333mhz regardless.

If you can afford 16gb go for it, you can't really have too much RAM. Only reason I could see buying 1600 or 1866 rated RAM is if you found a deal making it cheaper than 1333mhz RAM.

1866mhz works perfect in my 2.3ghz i7, but there is no 16gb for 1866mhz though. I would love to see it soon!

What p4madeus initially said is nonsense there exists no bus except the ring interconnect which is by orders of magnitude faster than any RAM could be.
Sandy Bridge Memory Controller officially supports 1600MHz, inofficially you can run pretty much anything till 2133 as long as the Voltage is low enough.

Still faster RAM on a notebook is really not a brilliant idea. It needs a little bit more power and gets you an indistinguishable speed advantage. There is just no difference in speed the CPU doesn't need the faster RAM and doesn't benefit from it in any meaningful way. It is a waste of money. It costs more than double for nothing. Speed difference between 1600 and 1866 is 0% in most cases and 1% in some very few.
That is like paying twice as much for a car that goes 202km/h instead of 200 everything else the same. Don't look at synthetic memory benchmark those have nothing to do with real world applications.

1333MHz DDR3 RAM is not a bottleneck for your CPU.

The Anandtech article actually states 1600MHz is the sweet spot.

I'm getting really curious as well now.
I just got my 13" MacBook Pro yesterday (it's the late 2011 base model) and I'd want to upgrade my RAM to at least 8 GB.

A few posts back there was said that faster RAM would give a "boost" to the Intel HD 3000, does that mean that my MBP's graphics would perform better, e.g. while gaming?

There is a lot of Apples to Oranges comparisons but you still can expect some 10%+ increase in fps with 1866 over 1333. Synthetic benchmarks are the only show some 6% increase, but games like bandwidth usually more than syn. benches. If that is worth the money opposed to the price of 1600 is your decision. In a 15"/17" I think 1866 is a poor idea in a 13" there is some point to it.

AMD fusion GPUs are very fond of high bandwidth but they are faster GPUs than a hd 3000. It also depends a lot on the game. Shader bound games like BF3, don't get your hopes up.

Oh no, I'm not that much of a gamer. I'd be pleased if I could play The Sims 3 on it every now and then

That's not actually how it works and faster RAM will indeed run at the faster speed and will give you a small performance boost that can be verified via a benchmarking tool like geekbench. However, that performance boost in the real world is basically negligible.

Oh god, 8GB 1600 is down to 45USD now!?
When I bought it last year it was 49USD for 1333 haha
The 16GB also dropped dramatically.

I would say go for the 16 since you do some gaming.
If you open web browsers and emails alot, get 16GB.

It changes your world from 4GB XD
