I realize that no one can know what the exact specs are for the rumored 15" new MacBook Pro supposedly being released sometime this month, but based upon what the current generation of 15" MacBook Pros have in them and guessing that the new ones will have at least slightly better specs than that, do you think it'll be able to run Diablo III online? This is kind of big for me as I'm currently trying to hold off on buying a 13" MacBook air and I know they can't run the game at anywhere near a decent level online, but if these newer air-styled MacBook pros could, I may consider waiting it out until they are released...

anything is possible, but since video games have been around for a very long time and even in 2011 apple did not MBP that were that great for gaming its possible they still wont in 2012.

so games might run very similar in 2012 as they are on the current MBP

There's no doubt.

People were running d3 beta on 11" airs, so even if they forego a dedicated GPU, the 4000 will plug along with d3 just fine. You'll have to do some scaling of course, but it'll play.

I am wondering this as well. But I am curious as to other games than just Diablo 3. I am currently without a computer and am just using a new iPad and my iPhone. The options for me are either a) build a gaming pc and use a 13" MBA as my main computer or b) wait for the new MBPs and use 15" for my main and hook it up to a external monitor for gaming. The latter really sounds better to me because I like having minimal devices and everything on one system. I wish they would just release the dang things already so we could see the specs. Until then I guess I am waiting it out.

A mac...for gaming? Really though, you'll be fine.

Dont be like that, a dedicated gpu mac works for a bunch of games if you put your expectations in line with what kind of computer it is. :)

According to Blizzard my sorry old 09 mbp 13" should manage (probably on crap settings) so the new 15" "should" run it very nicely.

Assuming the newer MacBook Pros will have better specs than the current ones then they'll run D3 easily. Even the current MBPs should have little trouble with D3, has the same engine as SC2 so it wont be too demanding.

I am playing the D3 beta right now on my mbp early 2011 15", highest end graphics. No issues other than i need to update my ram to 8 gig. 4 gigs will not cut it well out of the box with that game. I get a lot of what I call battle lag. With a lot on the screen, even with nothing else running, when I try to go into a battle with a lot of effects I would get a freeze for a small block of time and sometimes I would die. This is even with lowest graphics.

Oh no, I was mainly kidding, the "Macs can't run games" argument is largely invalid these days. I'm more of a console gamer, but am enjoying Torchlight on my late 2011 15" and will likely pick up Diablo III when it comes out.

I have an early 2011 MBP and the beta runs well on my system.

Hehe I know you were, and indeed youre right, alot of people are saying "i hate macs because no games are available for mac" but it looks to me as more and more of the big releases become available on mac aswell due to apple's increase computers for the average joe. :) Ofc laptops arent made for any kind of games and even if they manage them when they are new they quickly fall outside the desired performances as new games are released. But I only need my laptop to run a few games of various types to be satisfied and I think even the late 2011 would manage that.

The current generation is able to play it on high according to the specs released by blizzard. So the next one should do just fine.
