In the last week or so, my iCloud email hasn't been syncing between my iPad2 and iPhone4. .
I tried several hard resets, turned the iCloud sync off then back on for each followed by another hard reset ... the problem is still there. I'm also getting brief messages on the iPad after "checking for mail" that there are "598 messages, all read". I keep my email very cleaned out with maybe 30 or so in special folders. I can't figure out what's going on.
EDIT: I tested the email sync from my iPhone to the iPad and that direction worked smoothly. But not the other way around. Eventually, on the iPad, I deleted all inbox except one message, & all the outbox, but the iPhone didn't respond.
Still on the iPad, I went back into the inbox and when it "checked for mail", I made a mad dash to touch/hold the message box before it disappeared - the one that said "there are (now) 600 messages". Nothing happened right away, but suddenly the number changed to reflect the one remaining message in the inbox. Then the message disappeared. I went into the trash and deleted everything there.
From that point on, I'm back to instant sync between both devices.
Any idea what happened here? Does the trash mess up the sync after a certain point?
EDIT 2 - Perhaps this is an answer??? I went into Settings and discovered I had "remove deleted messages" set for 1 day on one device and 1 week on the other. Perhaps this "confused" iCloud? I've made the setting the same for both and will watch to see if there are further problems.
Here's where this setting is literally buried in Settings...
Settings > iCloud > Account > Mail > Advanced > Deleted Messages > Remove after XX days
