I'm currently getting someones unlimited data through an AOL and will be using a pantech breakout to get unlimited LTE and unlimited tethering
I wanted to use the data plan as my main Internet source and was wondering if using the pantech with unlimited tethering and data with no voice is possible and if that's better than using it with an lte Ipad or possibly with a mifi?

I have both a Mifi and iPad on Verizon. For an always on home Internet substitute, the Mifi is easier to run at all times. Of course if you get both, you can swap the sim when you want to.

I chose to cancel my iPad data account and just switch my MiFi SIM card into my iPad. Worked perfectly and served the same purpose of the MiFi device. Good thing is that VZ allows this (officially), so not against anything.

wait
so if I were to get an AOL from someone and get their unlimited data
does that mean I can use it on a mifi without getting the voice plan?

what is an AOL? also, if you are going to be doing this quite often a mifi can be annoying to carry with you all the time. I had 4g LTE verizon one for awhile and it got annoying carrying multiple devices like that.

Um, does AOL mean America OnLine? Like the really old service?

Verizon will allow to swap any 4G capable SIM to the iPad. It was stated in some sort of press release. However, the caveat is that you need to have a 4G phone or a 4G capable and a 4G SIM to swap out. Hotspot feature still works. The service/plan that SIM has will apply to the iPad. They won't be giving any SIMs.

no its assumption of liability.
I just completed it

It's $30 for voice
and $30 for unlimited lte on a phone
I now just need to get a sim
I'll go and get it from them

Very well
In trying to see if I can get a data only plan for business

Didn't work for me...

I just tried to install my MiFi 4G LTE SIM into my 3rd gen iPad and it did not work. I called Verizon today and they informed that in order for me to do this, I would need to switch my plan from a MiFi to a tablet package. Now, the pricing won't change in my case because it is the same cost ($50 for 5 GB) but for me to go back and forth between devices, it would require a phone call each time I wanted to do this.

I am in the SF Bay Area so not sure if this might be vary in different parts of the country.

Wow. That is odd. I just tried it and it works. I cut the original SIM so had to use an adapter. Used the MiFi and able to tether. Verizon acct online reflects the change in hardware. Did the iPad switch and still works and still recognizes my iPad as the hardware my SIM is in. NO CALLS were made to make this happen.

It will work without changing the plan. You might have to reset your network settings on your iPad first.

It also works the other way. I put my iPad 2GB data plan in my Nexus and it worked. Too bad 2GB isn't enough for VOIP.

I also use my mifi sim in my iPad with no problems, as well as a friend of mine. It should work. I have spoken to many people from Verizon, they almost never give accurate information.
