Considering it hasn't been updated for Mac for forever. The dumb thing always go out of sync. Mind you it might be cause of my G3/400 that I'm running, but does anyone else have "less than ok" performance with this program? Is there any other program that will run WMP files? Cause I've never been able to stand this program (even in OS 9).

Flip4Mac is great. I have their encoder. You can scrub WMV files very easily in QT. I don't know why you can't do that in MS crappy Media player.

Microsoft really needs to update it, IMO.
That is not opinion, that is fact. WMP is now at WMP 10 on Windows XP. The Mac version is still at WMP 9. With the advent of MacOS X 10.4, my copy of WMP no longer streams content from one of my favorite porn sites. However, it works for most non-DRM'd WM content, streamed and downloadable files.

Microsoft will not even bother for the Mac at this point in time. Maybe once the Mactels roll out but not any time soon. Most Mac users like iTunes for their music library so Microsoft doesn't think it's worth it to go to all the trouble for something so few people will use. It's along the same lines as IE for the Mac. Mac users wouldn't use it much if it were updated because they are loyal to all things Mac. Safari is so much more advanced than even the Windows version of IE. As far as WMP goes, the newest version for Windows is a great program and does everything for you. Importing is a breeze and maintaining a library is even easier. Maybe time will tell, but for now, enjoy iTunes.

Well generally anything made by Microsoft deserves to he hated, why should Media Player be an exception?

Echo trying Flip4Mac's WMPlayer. Its pretty good and keeps me from having to open WMP which takes forever to open in the first place and then takes forever to seek in any file.

People that encode their media to windows media format should be taken out to the woodshed for making me deal with all this

Yeah, Microsoft can put their .wmv where the sun doesn't shine.

I use VLC/MPlayer to view my movies. If some odd .avi or .wmv file doesn't play, then I trash it. No video is worth downloading StuffIt, then downloading WMP for Mac. Absolutely no video.

Gedt VLC player. Works pretty good. Nothing is so great to see that you have to download WMP...

I,ve also noticed anything from newsgroups etc that is encoded .wmv is crap to start with(spammers seem to use the format a lot).I second the flip4mac consensus it works very well. The only reason I have realplayer anywhere near my Mac is for the beebs streaming audio(and I capture it with audiohijack and play back with itunes).

Microsoft has a Mac group that does fine Mac software, but WMP is not written or maintained by that group. If users pressured Microsoft to move the Mac Windows Media Player effort to the Mac group, then a better WMP for Mac OS X might result. I doubt Microsoft executives read Mac user discussion forums, so complaining here won't have any impact.
