Just as the title says, I'm curious as to which brand SSD's have been shipping in each of the Retina MacBook Pros. It seems like the MacBook Airs are still shipping with either a Toshiba or Samsung branded SSD. What about the Retina MacBook Pros?

Try apple>about this mac>hardware

Hardware->Serial-ATA

APPLE SSD SM###E = Samsung

APPLE SSD TS###? = Toshiba

Just a guess-- based on this article...
http://www.anandtech.com/show/6005/apples-new-ssd-its-fast

The article alluded to the fact that their may be a performance difference between the Samsung and the Toshiba (with the Samsung performing better, but it was pure speculation). This is disconcerting. I want to know how they are disseminating these drives and if the Retina MBP is only getting one or the other or both.

This smells like the start of a which SSD is faster/better thread......reminiscent of the threads that came about when the macbook air was released.

Only says APPLE SSD SM256E, (Samsung)
Thank's CUsurfer for the heads up.
Mine is the base 15" by the way.

given the sandforce track record wat did you expect?

Is there a Toshiba one?

In MBA there is. However, right now it seems that 256GB and 512GB SSDs are Samsungs (hence rMBP has only Samsungs) whereas 64GB and 128GB are Toshibas. Haven't seen a single +128GB Toshiba or sub-256GB Samsung in 2012 Macs yet.

According to Anandtech the Samsung SSDs are actually using the 830 controller for this generation. Seems like a good move on Apple's part for the higher end models.

It'll be more interesting to see who makes the 768GB SSD drive as from looking around that part is totally custom, but then again I suppose the other ones are too. I bet they have only used one supplier as they are custom made SSD drives?

the only tashiba I have seen was in a review, but like someone else said, i think it was a 128 SSD. I wonder if everything over 256+ is all samsung and the 128's are random

Ordered the 768GB version, would love to know if I'll find samsung 830 (YES!!!) or toshiba (NOOO!!!!!) inside it... someone has the 768GB version and can check?

2012 MBP_R / 2.7GHz i7 / 16GB / 768GB Samsung (BTO Apple Online) Mine

2012 MBP_R / 2.6GHz i7 / 8GB / 512GB Samsung (from Apple Store) My Wife's

Samsung
this ssd would have cost me a good $250 to upgrade from a normal mbp, so its value for money right there :D

Ordered Jun 17, arrived Jul 6th. Ultimate rMBP (2.7/16/768). Samsung SSD and controller (SM768E).

No detectable ghosting. Smooth sailing thus far.
