Hello guys,

I'm shopping for a 13inch MBP. The 2018 being discontinued, I could get my hand on a i5 2.3 GHz 8th gen for only 50$ more than a mid 2019 i5 1.4 GHz 8th gen.

Main advantages of the 2018:
Intel Iris Plus Graphics 655 (vs 645)
Four Thunderbolt 3 ports (vs two)

But looking at the benchmarks, the 1.4 GHz if faster? Am I missing something?

Which one would you pick?

Thanks ;)

The CPU is the smallest differential between the two.

The 2018 has faster wifi, faster SSD, faster graphics, and two extra TB ports.

Thanks, didn't know about these ones. What are your bets on buying now, vs waiting for the October release. By then, the 2018 will of course no longer be available.

If you need it now, buy the 2018 now. Otherwise I'd wait if you can. The 2018 may still be available for some time through sales, refurbished etc.

Are you talking about the July '18 MBP with TB? I had that one and I now have a 2019 1.4GHz with 256GB SSD. The keyboard on the 2019 has new materials and is considerably quieter to me. I don't care about ports; two is enough. I also feel that the battery life is much better than the 2018 model. Wi-Fi is a non-issue for me; they both work well enough for me at work and at home. I think having the quad-core processor is enough of a reason to justify getting the 2019 but you won't be disappointed with either model.

The 2018 is quad core too. The 2017 was not. :)

I would get the 2018 for a number of reasons. It will have more thunderbolt ports (4 in total), two fans (1.4 GHz MBP only has one fan), and if the keyboard ever goes bad, it will be replaced free of charge with a 2019 keyboard.

The 2018 is becoming a no brainer, now hoping that Apple will not come up with a twice as fast 13-in MBP in October lol.
