I have read reports of the 14" needing to rev up fans earlier and faster than the 16", but that was during benchmarks which may not indicate what happens during normal usage. I know the 14" would still be silent unless stressed, but what about heavy Logic use? Has anyone used it in long sessions in Logic with a large number of virtual instruments, like a typical orchestral template? Preferably stuff from East West and NI that still isn't native? Thanks.

I've been working on a 14' M1 Max for a little over a week doing testing. My big orchestral arrangements are totally fine running on Rosetta amazingly. The hottest the CPU will read is about 66F. Normal working is about 50F. At 50, the fan will be on low and it's not an issue. At 60F. the fan noise is noticeable. especially with the laptop being on the desk. Doing gentle recording next to the laptop in a large session is a no-no on the 14 M1 Max. I'm sending the 14 back, and ordered a 16 M1 Max for the thermal benefits. I have a colleague who has a 16 and it's much quieter under similar loads.

Thanks! I got the 14 M1 Max a few days ago and tested some smaller projects today. So far I have yet to get the fan to turn on, but haven't really pushed it too much yet. I did notice it was handling these projects well compared to my M1 Mac mini which would suffer overloads. I really like the size coming from a 16" Intel MBP. I am hopeful that when all my VI's go native, it will be able to handle anything I throw at it without fans. But after one day I am pleased.
