B&H has a sale right now, and the two machines listed above are basically the same price. Should I go for storage or power?

I mainly use Figma, Lightroom, and InDesign...

BTW I have a 15TB NAS that I keep local copies of all my image files, videos, etc. I don't a ton of stuff on my laptops
 
If you're absolutely sure that you won't NEED 1tb of storage, I'd get the m4pro version.

I don't think you would see much difference in speed in your environment versus the M4 Pro over the M4. Since most of your files are store externally, rapid access to those files may be come more critical. Over time there will be NAS and external storage systems that can take full advantage of Thunderbolt 5.

You do say "local copies" of files. Check your current on-device storage. If you are not using that much of the internal storage, then go for the M4 Pro. If you are hitting close to the 512 Gig storage in your on-device files then skip the Pro and just go for the M4 to get the 1TB of storage.
