On my iPhone 14 pro max, the front-top speaker cover is set back a few mm. Unfortunately, dust collects in the cavity. Does mine have a flaw or this is part of the design?

Can you take a photo to show this? Hard to tell just by your description.

It’s the design so you just have to live with it. Mine is the same.

This is the first iPhone without a metal mesh over the earpiece speaker. Mine is the same and I was surprised when I noticed it.

There is a vertical plastic grill in there that is part of the housing and leads to a chamber that has an opening on the top left side inside the phone for the speaker to connect to.

If dust becomes an issue it can be cleaned with compressed air at an angle (not directly into it), or with a soft brush.
