Seagate Momentus XT owners about TD27

So I replaced my HDD with a Momentus XT since I dropped my spare 750GB drive (yes I know, im getting a SSD next month but also needed a storage disk for optibay).
Just about 10 minutes ago I tried to update my TD27 fw to SD28 coming to find out that it isnt possible because the TD is a Toshiba fw and SD is Seagate?!?!

So did any of you guys managed to get a TD27 to run SD28 fw?
If yes, please provide me with a how to.

Are you using the 500gb or 750gb version? The 500gb firmwares don't work on the 750gb. And to my understanding there currently isn't any firmware updates out for the 750gb. If there is I need to get mine updated :)

Help us out here. What is TD27 and SD28? Your message is the only reference to those terms on this forum and a google search only turned up a Nissan Turbo Diesel engine, which I have to assume is not what you're talking about.

I used a Seagate Momentus XT for quite some time and was very impressed by it. If I hadn't just moved to a 768GB SSD I'd probably be using one now.

If you could explain the issue with a bit more detail and possibly fewer acronyms, you'll probably find members here willing to help.

The 500GB version. I didnt tried to cross updating.

TD27 is the current installed fw and SD28 is the latest fw.
I think the T stands for Toshiba and the S for Seagate.
ApparentlyToshiba decided to put a hand on the Seagate line as wel.
I dont know what more to make off it.
I also Googled and came across 'secret names' for seagate drives and changing files to get the update running, but not any concrete information.

Are you sure that they sent you the correct drive? Are you positive it is a momentus XT? I can't see any reason why it would have a different firmware. Unless you bout a toshiba external that jsut happens to use a XT drive or something crazy.

My model number: ST95005620AS
Capacity: 500.11 GB
Firmware revision: SD28 (I updated it sometimes ago)

Its Seagate for sure.
No external just the HD.
Im also confused about the different fw.
Its a Dutch website but;

Im not sure what you mean about selling à mb for à rmbp. Wrong topic?

Sorry for the confusion. I saw in 01mggt's signature that he sold a MBP 2008 to get a rMBP, so I wanted to have an idea about the actual price of MBP 2008.

So what exactly is this firmware? Can we update to SD28?
I just got this drive and after installing Lion last night I noticed it says TD27..
 
So its simple as launching the ISO, getting to the freedDOS C:/ prompt..

running the command

FDL497A -m ANAK -f ANSD28.LOD -i Seagate -s -x -b -v -a 20


And that's it?

Thanks amigo. Will give this a shot tonight.

Quick question, after running that command that forces the update to go. I guess at the end of it its just Power cycling the computer.

I don't need to run the command and re-run the update again?

Yep, when the update completes, power cycle your computer. You don't need to re-run it again.

Just did this, worked like a charm. Took less than 1minute and now under About this Mac it shows SD28.

Boot your mac with the CD in it.. Hold C while its booting. Once the cd boots, select the option to download the files to the drive.. it's going to come back and complain about model not matching.

its going to say power cycle computer. Hit control+C you will get a C:/ prompt. Thats when you type in that above command and its going to finish it off then just turn off your mac (using the power button)

Black magic shows à 5mb higher read/write speed nice.
Just in case SD29 ever comes out; we just go commando again with this code? Or will the normal way work since we tricked it being à Seagate and not Toshiba?

Think its been tricked now and should be good to go from now on.

This hard drive was deff quite a speed increase over my old stock 5400rpm.

Sorry to hijack the thread. I just ordered a Momentus XT hybrid drive. Do I need to update the firmware once it arrives?
