Car charger for MacBook pro?

Is there one available or do I just get an inverter.

Any suggestions and or links please so I can use it in my car with out it going flat.

A few on ebay like this; Just use magsafe, car adapter, DC, etc as keywords.

I've bought a couple. I do have the hypermac one, but it needs a magsafe attachment as Hypermac doesn't supply one, so haven't used it yet. There are various types on ebay. I haven't tried the one i've posted but the other types i've bought worked ok. I wouldn't use it while the engine is not running.

I've also used a Kensington based 70watt and 120 watt based chargers, but the 120 watt one no longer seems available.

another possibility is the apple airline adapter. With this you'll need the engine running (so the car battery is outputting close to 15 volts) and it won't charge- only supply power.

the 15" mbp evidently uses both 16.5 volts and 18.5 volts, while the 13" only uses 16.5 volts. Hypermac claims their charger uses both voltages, so itmay be the safest bet. You need a magsafe cable whicj you can get from ebay or scavenge a dead charger for it. You'll need to solder a male DC plug to the magsafe lead.

12volt charger for MacBook

There is unit marketed by some Apple resellers and on the net packaged as a AP-85 Laptop Car Charger For Apple Macbook pro 18.5V4.6A 85W
Comes in a very professional package with the usual instructions.
I paid $79 au from a street front store but they can be picked up online for under $30 au. The first one failed within 4 months, plastic end piece where the spring loaded connection is melted a bit and lost contact. The second one actually went into total meltdown filling the vehicle with acrid fumes and smoke. So much so that it could be smelt almost 60m away. The first one was replaced under warrantee, the second one is pending. I would never leave one of these plugged in unless I was in the vehicle. So be warned :mad:

I'd say to go with an inverter, that way you can use it for other things as well.
