Is this HD too expensive???

Welllllll i wanna get a bigger HD for my ibook, but im scared to do it myself. Sooooooo i called this apple specialist in my area, and they said a 60 GB hd is $199, and labor would be $139 bringing it to a grand total of $338... . You guys think its too much????

2 hours labour is reasonable for a drive install on an iBook. As for the drive, it really depends which model - Hitachi or Seagate, 5400 RPM or 7200 RPM.

That sounds pretty reasonable if it's a 7200rpm drive, if not its a little steep, but still not too bad.

To have more storage for an iBook, and not pay the premium of labor costs, I would really, really recommend an external FireWire drive. Of course, if you are looking specifically for an internal, and are willing to pay the premium of labor costs, then $338 sounds like a typical installation all said and done. A hard drive replacement is something you can do yourself, but requires care, care, and some more care.

doesnt it also void applecare? or any warentee if you have that left? i want an internal HD for my PB (so i dont have to lug my external around with me all the time) but i dont want to void my applecare. just curious.

I know if an Apple Certified Technician does the work you are still covered under AppleCare (had a 30GB hard drive replaced on my now-sold iBook G3), but I am not sure what happens to your warranty if a random technician does the work.

well the first question the dude asked me was " is it under warranty?"..i just wanted to get a feel of the price so i said no but i lied..( bought my ibook last dec, got 4 months left)...then he told me the price. but im thinking of getting apple care b4 thats up...
