Yesterday, Apple has decided to block my account permanently. Why? Because I am (was) using US iTunes store from outside the US. Apparently, it's written on the terms & condition when you first sign up for iTunes account.
I used to live in the US until several months ago. Bought all my iDevices from the US and of course open my account in US store. I moved to Indonesia a few months ago and I know that US iTunes store doesn't accept foreign CC, therefore, I bought gift cards before I left. If I ran out, my friends can easily buy some for me.
A few days ago, I had a problem purchasing an app. Said that I had to verify payment method and contact iTunes support. I've encountered the same problem before and I even told the rep. that I'm using gift card and I'm not living in the US, the problem was resolved quickly. This time, the iTunes rep. replied back with a message that I'm in violation of the rule and there is nothing they can do. I get to keep all my purchases, but won't receive any new update on them. If I want to download from iTunes store, I have to purchase from Indonesia's iTunes store. There is no other option. It's a very logical answer of course, but have you SEEN what's in Indonesia's iTunes store? NOTHING! Not even a single song available. I can find Indonesian songs on US store, but not in Indonesia store. That's how pathetic it is. Apps are very limited, only a few are useful/interesting, the rest are garbage. I'm more than willing to switch location and use a credit card instead, if only they have things to offer me.
I don't like jailbreaking my devices. Not because I have some superiority complex of paying for what I get, because trust me, I'm far from that. I just don't like the hassle that comes with JB. I did JB my phones before and problems often occur when I sync it to my computer and then I'll have to do a restore. Besides, I like updating my phone and apps. I'm a bit OCD with when I see the little red number telling me that I have an update
I realise that I'm at fault for not reading the terms, but lets be honest here, who reads that thing??
I know that Indonesia's problem with piracy must be a huge blow to apple sales, so I guess I understand why the store is so limited. But there are also many people here who are willing to pay you and you're not letting them. I was about to ask my friend in the US to help me buy another $100 worth of gift cards, but now my account has been blocked permanently. Why? Because I'm willing to PAY for my downloads. I've invested thousands of dollars in iTunes store alone and this is the thanks I get. So you're welcome, apple. I'll be taking my apps needs somewhere else where it's FREE.
I'm one of the people here who can't wait for the iPhone 5. But after this, take your time, apple. I'm in no hurry to get it.
