My Computer is Talking and I need help on how to turn it off

I let my father use my computer today and when I get home it seems he has turned on a feature where the computer "speaks" through the speakers whatever I have selected on the screen or type. I did not even know this feautre existed and i need help on how to turn it off. I have 10.4.

system preferences -> speech It's in the bottom row. Check turn speakable items to off .
