Hi,

I bought a 2009 15" unibody 2.53ghz MBP on the cheap due to a cracked LCD and glass. The replacement (1440x900) was $65, but I saw a 1680x1050 version of the same LCD for $95, did some research, seemed people installed it fine and raved about their new screen. After install , my display prefs state a max of 1440x900... is their a firmware update or something I need to do to get my Mac to recognize the higher resolution display available? Or am I just screwed, and those people raving about this swap were high or something? LOL

thanks for any advice

Unfortunately, for whatever reason that resolution isn't supported with the 15" MBPs prior to Rev. H (mid-2010). iFixIt says it's compatible, but numerous people have reported that they are incorrect and the hi-res display won't work at its native resolution in the 2008-2009 MBPs, the most it will do is 1440x900 as you found out.

Thanks for clearing that up, guess I just wasted $30. Oh well. It's really a shame there isn't a firmware update to make this work, I'd totally pay Apple $50 to make this happen, lol.
