Can't comment on the Acer - haven't used it - but VGA will work with a Macbook if you get the mini dvi --> VGA adapter.

However the HannsG one does - and to be fair? It's not bad, but it depends what you want to use it for. For example it's colour range is poor, but if it's for document work and the like? Don't worry.
 
Either way you'll need an adaptor Mini-DVI - DVI or Mini-DVI - VGA.

DVI is better, and I'd be inclined to go with that one. I do remember a poster ere (ages ago) had issues with that Acer lcd. I remember because I was looking at it at the same time.

They seem reasonably keen on the Hanns one here
