When my iPhone 5 is charging and connected to the lightning to USB cable, for some reason, the iPhone 5 will not respond to my touch at all. The external buttons work though. Even if it respond, only for a few second and then back to non-responding or sometimes erratic like if I try to swipe, it will open an app instead.

But then if I disconnect my iPhone 5 from the lightning cable, it's working fine. Anybody else has this issue?

I haven't seen that one, you might want to take it to the store because it sounds like it could eventually lead to something else. I wouldn't chance it since it is a new phone.
