what do people have theirs at? 50%? have you seen a difference having it lower in battery life? or is anything below 50% too dark?

I always keep mine at 100% unless I'm going to be in a really dark area for a decent amount of time

I leave mine in the 50-60% range and full blast if I'm using it outside. It will impact battery life if you leave it on full blast, though I'm not sure how much difference there will be between 50% and say 30% - probably not enough to worry about it.
I have always found auto brightness to always be very dark on my phone...way too dark to use. good when outside of course.

Me too.
Auto on haven't touched since restore. Auto is nice on ios6 you can go to brightness settings and actually watch the knob go back and forth from dark to light room.
I just leave mine at 100%. And I rarely use my phone in the dark, is bad for your eyes. Mine still gets me through the day with approx 4-5/14 use/standby.
