Am I correct in saying both of these machines, aside from size (battery) are identical?

Does the M1 Max always have the higher bandwidth or only when maxing out (no pun intended) the memory to 64GB?

I spec’ed a 14 in & 16in and with all options I wanted, it was only a $200 difference. So i would absolutely pay that to go up to 16.

edit: and of course battery life!

I also noticed the chips are more power hungry. According to Apple website: 13 inch Pro M1 - 17 hours wireless web. 14 inch M1 Pro - 11 hours wireless web.

The pro chips have less efficiency cores. Might have something to do with it

I think so! I love using my laptop for RDP into a Windows computer running medical software, using Outlook and Safari. Then from time to time, plugging in my DSLR for some more heavy lifting as the M1 is still quite decent.

What I liked about the standard M1 was the battery would go for ages while doing those light tasks, which I feel won’t be the case with the 14 inch Pro.

Great for heavy tasks, not so much light tasks on battery.

I'm glad they have no differences other than battery and display size. The 14" is the perfect size for me.
