15" cMBP with TB Display- will it lag like rMBP

I currently have an rMBP that I generally love but can't ignore the lag in Safari when visiting sites like Facebook. I am now planning on replacing my Mac Pro 1,1 and was wondering if I would notice the same lag if I go down the 15" cMBP+TB display which has a somewhat similar resolution to the rMBP. I will be using the cMBP in clamshell mode.

Any current owners with that similar setup that can shed some light?

Base 15" with 512mb. There isn't lag because it's not retina. It can drive the resolution just fine.
