On the regular macbook pro 15 inch editions what are the main differences in the 2011 to the 2012 model. Is it worth buying the new one over the old one?

FOR 2012:
-USB 3.0 vs 2.0 (much faster possible throughput)
-Ivy bridge (little bit faster/more efficient, better integrated graphics)
-More capable discrete graphics card that probably adds around 10FPS more to games (just a guess, someone probably has cold figures).

FOR 2011:
-Significantly cheaper

are the changes worth the 300 dollars more?
Depends what kinda dollars. It's definitely worth 300 more Zimbabwe dollars

But really, you have to provide why you want the computer for a reply to that question.

If that gaming doesn't involve using Windows in Bootcamp then the 2012 doesn't appear necessary (not many demanding OS X titles).

general internet use, video streaming and some gamimg

If this is all you are planning on doing with the machine, I would say that you could go with the 2011 and still be in good shape.

I have owned a 2011 MBP and now I have the 2012 MBP. I do primarily video editing, so the upgrade is something I get the performance upgrade out of.

Here is a thread about the 2012 when I got it and in the thread the differences do get mentioned

See if there is any info in there that can help you.

Is there a big difference in speed and graphics. What about the USB 3.0 in the new and 2.0 in the old. Will I notice a big difference.

Wait until the 2012 models show up in the refurbished store and buy one there. That should save you $100-200, and you'll get the current model.

It shouldn't be long, the 13" 2012 models have shown up a couple times already.

That depends.....do you have any USB 3.0 external devices?

Unless you have a usb 3.0 SSD, I dont think it will be noticeably faster ... it will be faster though :)

I had the same decision to do - MBP 13 2011 vs 2012. Happy with my much cheaper 2011 MBP, especially with a RAM and SSD upgrade.
