Hello All

So I have a Macbook Pro 15" (mid 2010). It has the discrete GPU that began giving me kernel panics about a year ago. I brought it to Apple last August and they ran an over night diagnostic and found nothing wrong. Fast forward almost a year later and the GPU panics happen atleast four times a day and causes the system to crash.

Today I brought it into Apple (genius bar) and they ran a quick diagnostic and low and behold the GPU failed. The repair usually costs $310 dollars to complete and he notified me that the recall warranty had expired, but since I had brought the laptop into Apple last august they apologized for the inconvenience and said they would repair it for free. I got lucky but I am thrilled.

Anyone else with this issue, I would advise visiting a Apple store, you might just get lucky. Be polite, explain your situation, they may just fix it!

Good on Apple on this one!
