Is this worth $700?

Also the battery needs replacement, which will cost another $129.

As a starting point, you can check Mac2Sell, eBay (including completed sales), or Amazon for prices of similar models, to get an idea of what a fair price may be. Then adjust the price to account for condition, configuration, remaining AppleCare coverage (if any), etc.

700 is not a bad price for those machine. If you can get it for 550 much better. Remember it is the last unibody 15 inch that has replaceable battery and expresscard 34. That is why I am keeping my late 2008 macbook pro whenever I buy a upgrade MBP. Because I can always carry extra battery around and still use my express card slot for variety of add ons like Tv Tuner and stuff.

Be aware that when battery reaches the end of its life, it expands and bulges (it is one of the final stages of failure before they explode), and you won't be able to close properly the lid. This happened to me few weeks ago. Actually, I am running my late 2008 MBP with AC power only until I get a cheap battery replacement from ebay...
