Working on a friend's 15" CD 1.83 GHz MBP recently.
They were running OS X 10.6 and needed to update to the latest version, so I ran the 10.6.8 Combo update.
Immediately after doing so, the only audio they get from the internal speakers is a crackling sound, audible only at the highest volume, and barely audible at that. No system sounds, iTunes, nothing.
If you connect external speakers or earbuds to the headphone jack any audio program as well as system sounds are heard as expected.
I reset the PRAM and SMB as well.
So to summarize, the Combo update appears to have affected the function of the internal speakers. And yes, I have searched Apple's support forums and the Web as well.
Any suggestions would be appreciated!
