Hi all,

I'm having some issues with an external TV and can't find the exact same problem online, so figured i'd try here if anyone knows what's the issue :).

Issue:
1. When connecting the external TV and putting the MBP in clamshell mode, the TV screen works for a few seconds and then turns black and doesn't come back on. Half of the times I also have problems waking the display at all. Using the TV as extended, it stays on.
2. MacBook will only connect to 4K TV at 30Hz. 60 Hz only works on 1080p. I thought it was a cable issue, but with SwitchResX I am able to set 4K 60Hz manually, so it seems to be a software issue.

I've already tried all 4 TB ports, resetted NVRAM + PRAM but this doesn't help.

Device: 15" MBP 2019 base model
Adapter: https://store.hp.com/us/en/pdp/hp-usb-c-to-hdmi-20
Extension: HDMI <> HDMI cable

Hoping for someone to be able to help me out!

I would definitely try another cable. I had problems with my 4K display and the 2019 MBP 15" using an usb-c to hdmi adapter. It worked sometimes only after plugging the display in and out for 5 minutes. A dedicated USB-C to HDMI cable fixed that issue for me.
