15" MBP external display power issues

I hooked up my original 15" mbp with a dvi-hdmi cable to a 37" lcd. I've used it as a dual monitor, mirroring, and with the mbp in clamshell mode. In each instance the computer inexplicably shuts off after about an hour of use.

Any ideas for troubleshooting would be appreciated.
